Hurricane Milton Updates (as of 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 19):
Saturday morning update from Sarasota County Sheriff's Office: The Blackburn Point Bridge to North Casey Key Road has been reopened to thru traffic. There is still a lot of work to be done on our barrier islands.
The following public drop-off sites will open for residents living in both unincorporated Sarasota County, as well as the municipalities, who would like to self-transport vegetative storm debris. Residents can drop off at the sites Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
Rothenbach Park, 8650 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota
Jackson Road Transfer Station, 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice
Proof of Sarasota County residency is required (i.e. driver's license, tax bill, utility bill, etc.).
Residents must self-unload all vegetative storm debris.
Volunteer groups may haul and unload vegetative storm materials on behalf of a resident. A completed Hurricane Milton Public Drop-off Site Verification Form for Sarasota County Residents MUST be presented by volunteer groups at the time of disposal otherwise materials will not be accepted.
No commercial debris or vehicles will be permitted to use the sites.
Note: any materials transported to the Central County Landfill for disposal will be subject to standard disposal fees.
We are aware that a rumor is being shared that FEMA will automatically provide $1,200 if you have been without power for 24 hours. However, this is a misleading statement.
