The popular Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT)
Summer Youth Pass is now on sale. The $10 pass allows youths up
to age 19 unlimited ridership on SCAT buses from June 1-Sept. 1.
On Feb. 25, SCAT began operating seven days a
week and currently offers extended hours and late-night service
on several routes. SCAT provides service to beaches, major
shopping areas, all county libraries and the Sarasota-Bradenton
International Airport, among many local destinations. SCAT also
connects to the Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT), and has
service to Bradenton and Palmetto. The youth passes are accepted
only in Sarasota County; MCAT fares apply in Manatee County.
The Summer Youth
Passes are available at the SCAT office, 5303 Pinkney Ave.,
Sarasota, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; the Downtown Transfer
Station ticket booth, 1565 First St., Sarasota, Monday-Thursday,
7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and North Port
City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd., North Port, Monday-Friday, 8
a.m.-5 p.m.
Proof of age is
required for purchase, and accepted forms of payment are cash or
check (cash only at the Downtown Transfer Station). Credit cards
are not accepted. The Summer Youth Pass can be used on all SCAT
routes, excluding SCAT Plus and the Veterans bus, and is not
transferable. Without the pass, the regular single-ride fare is
75 cents.
