Myakkahatchee Park vehicle access closed due to flooding

The access road to Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port has been closed due to flooding.

Rain from Tropical Storm Fay in northern Florida, combined with local rains, caused the Myakka River to overflow in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, 6968 Reistertown Road.

“This is something that happens every year, usually a little bit earlier in the year,” said Rick Storsberg, naturalist for Sarasota County Parks and Recreation. “We close the access road for public safety. We will reopen the road when the water recedes and we can get in there to repair it.”

Myakkahatchee Park covers 160 acres and offers picnic areas, hiking trails and natural habitats for hundreds of plant and animal species.

For more information, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 and ask about Myakkahatchee Park.
