3, 3:30 p.m.) The Sarasota County Health Department monitors
water quality weekly at 16 sites along Sarasota’s 34 miles of
beaches. The intent of this program is to provide our residents
and visitors accurate, up-to-date information on the water
quality at our beaches. Results of this monitoring program are
posted on line at
www.OurGulfEnvironment.net
Bacteria Monitoring Results:

Current Warnings/Advisories:
Water quality at the Venice Fishing Pier beach does not meet
current health standards for recreational waters.

The Sarasota
County Health Department continues to detect elevated levels
of Enterococcus (bacteria) at the Venice Fishing Pier Beach.
Precautionary signs remain posted, advising people not
to swim or engage in water sports.

The Health
Department will conduct follow-up water sampling.

No other beach
areas in Sarasota County are affected by this advisory.
Red Tide Activity
- Red Tide samples
collected on June 30, show red tide levels on all Sarasota
beach sites below detectable limits.
- These sites
include: Longboat Key, Ringling Causeway, North Lido, Lido,
South Lido, Siesta, Turtle, Nokomis, North Jetty, Venice,
Service Club, Venice Pier, Brohard, Caspersen, Manasota, and
Blind Pass Beach.
- Daily updates
from Sarasota Beach Life Guards indicate no respiratory
effects due to red tide on all of Sarasota’s guarded
beaches.
