Joe Barbetta is Vice Chair of the Sarasota County Commission and
was elected in 2006.

Barbetta was graduated from LaSalle Military Institute in
Troy, New York. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from
Fordham University and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD)
degree from Union University-Albany Law School in Albany, New
York. He practiced law in Clifton Park, New York, for 13 years,
in the areas of real estate development, planning, zoning and
land use.
Barbetta has lived in Sarasota since 1983. He and his wife,
Mary, live in Sarasota with a son, Sean. Their daughter, Mary
Lynn, and a grandson, Riley, live in Atlanta.
Commissioners are elected at large for four-year terms.
Sarasota County is divided into five districts and commissioners
are designated by the district where they live.
